HKEX-CD, a 'cheaper' alternative to play HKEX's bullish breakout

HKEX has broken above its downtrend line (SS) at HKD130 last week. Yesterday, it broke above the strong horizontal resistance at HKD150 yesterday. Today, HKEX is experiencing some correction. At the time of writing this post, it is trading at HKD149.80-149.90. If it can recover above the HKD150 today or tomorrow, HKEX could go higher.

Chart: HKEX's weekly chart from July 2007 to Sept 27, 2010 (Source: Yahoo Finance)

You may gain entry into HKEX indirectly by buying the 2 CWs listed in our exchange- HKEX-CC or HKEX-CD. The valuation & terms are tabulated below.

Table: HKEX-CC or HKEX-CD- Valuation & Main Terms

HKEX-CD could be a good trading BUY as its premium (at about 4%) is considered undemanding.

  1. Aiyoh! How can you come to such conclusion?

HKEX-CD is clearly the better buy. Lower premium, higher gearing, and longer life.

  2. Hi Alex,
Can you please share your inputs on MMCCORP and IVORY. Thanks.

  3. Hi Swifz

Thank you for pointing out the error. A case of typo error.

  4. Hi Stephanie s

IVORY is a newly listed stock, which started off very well when it rose to a high of RM1.41 a few days after its listing. Since then, it has been drifting lower. Today it touched its low of RM1.15 before rebounding. Technically speaking, a break below RM1.15 would be quite bearish for the stock.

I have posted on the volatility breakout for MMC a few days ago. It may test the psychological RM3.00 soon. If it can surpass this level, it could potentially go to RM3.50 & then RM3.80. The catalyst for this rally could be the re-listing of Malakoff or increased power plant capacity in line with Tenaga's additional power requirement.

Can you pls share your views on EAH. After announcement of propose issue of free warrants the price doesn't go up much. Thank you.

  10. Hi Ethan Lee

For FY2010, Gamuda recorded an EPS of 13.9 sen. Based on this, the stock is trading at a trailing PE of 27 times. Unless more jobs are secured & more properties are sold, I think the stock is fully valued. As such, the risk for the stock is towards the downside. Avoid Gamuda.

  11. Hi Polite Market

Freight formed a base at RM0.92-96 over the past few weeks & is now swinging upward. Its first test will be the recent high at RM1.07. If it can surpass that level, it can go higher. Failure to do so could lead to a double top reversal. That is not likely scenario as the stock is trading at a PE of about 7 times now. In the last bull run in 2007, its trailing PE peaked at 12 times.

  12. Hi Ai Ling

Axiata will be a good buy if it pulls back to its 100-day SMA line at RM4.20. Wait a while.

GPacket is resting on the accelerated medium-term uptrend line at RM0.90. However, the long-term downtrend line is still in tact. To overcome that, GPacket must surpass the downtrend line resistance at RM1.05-1.06. I think the stock will stay at the RM0.90-1.00 level until early next year, unless sale changes significantly. Investors would also like to see what kind of write-off or provisioning may hit the company's bottom-line when the final quarterly results i.e. QE31/12/2010 is announced.

  13. Hi Alex,

What's your take on Sunrise after the recent breakout from 2.30 but capped by it's resistance at 2.40 . At mid-day now, it lost 7% (0.16) to 2.14.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi David Ng

Sunrise broke above its downtrend line, either at RM2.12 (as per the linear chart) or RM2.25 (as per the log chart). The stock has also broken the horizontal support of RM2.25. Below this, the stock may find support at the 50-day SMA line at RM2.10 or the horizontal line of RM2.05. It often happens that sharp correction would follow sharp run-up. Such is the case for Sunrise today.

  15. Hi NGU

There is nothing much that I can say about the strong rally in UEMland and MRCB. UEMLand has surpassed the all-time high & may go higher. MRCB's next resistance is the horizontal line at RM2.30 & then RM2.40.

    Hi Stephanie

EAH has a strong run-up from RM0.47 at the beginning of September to an intra-day high of RM0.67 this morning- a gain of 42%! The correction that follows the announcement of a proposed issue of free warrants may be a surprise to some but this is not uncommon as the market has already factored in this supposedly good news & it's now selling on the news.

EAH is a profitable company that is involved in the provision of software solutions, ICT services as well as radio frequency identification solutions. The prospect of this company is considered by some to be very promising. For more, go to here

look at yr fa calls, out of 10, u scored 6 to 7 ! much much better than yr ta calls, since ta is not workable at all, why still stick to it ?

play shit here ? of course no ! I am supporting my sifu method only , I am also trying to safe newbies from landed in a place called holland , dear alex lu, yr fa analysis is more than enough to guide yr followers to success ,if not because of yr ta method, I believe u can do even better than now.

  27. Hi Lim

I don't know whether SUNREIT will go above the RM1 mark soon. However, the short-term trend is positive. REITs tend to go up slowly & I think that good REITs, such as SUNREIT & CMMT would enjoy good buying support on weakness. Good entry levels to SUNREIT & CMMT are RM0.95 & RM1.10, respectively.

  28. Hi qian qian

L&G is consolidating within a triangle. The upside resistance & breakout level is at RM0.50-0.51 while the downside support & breakout level is at RM0.44-45. Technically, we should buy near the support & hope for a rebound. Conversely, we should sell near the resistance & hope for a pullback.

  29. hey neno, are you from the same family as that fish called nemo ? do you have attention deficit disorder or what...i made it clear in my earlier posting that i share the same christian name as alex lu but I am not alex lu, period!! I am alex tan.
anyway, i am just wondering why do you even bother to come to this blog site if you do not trust TA. Just stick to that hole where you crawled out from, OK? sorry Alex Lu, i have to do this as I think you are doing a very good job here and help a lot of people to see the good of combining TA as well as FA. It's silly fishes like neno that is trying to stir shit instead of concentrating on investing in share market like all the others are doing.

  30. Hi Ethan Lee

My thoughts on the 2 stocks are:
    1) DRBHicom's recent financial results is quite encouraging with pre-tax profit of RM223 million. After excluding a negative goodwill of RM71 million, its operating profit is fairly substantial at RM152 million. If it can maintain this level of operating profit, it may hit a full-year EPS of 20 sen. As such, DRBHicom (at RM1.26 at the close of 29/9/2010) is now trading at a reasonable PE of 6.3 times.

Chartwise, DRBHicom has strong resistance at RM1.30 & then at RM1.40. Immediate support is at RM1.20 and then at RM1.10.

    2) JCY is still in a downtrend line with resistance at RM1.15. For QE30/6/2010, JCY's net profit was down q-o-q from RM66 million to RM56 million while turnover dropped from RM550 million to RM480 million. How long would the slowdown in the HDD sector last? The slowdown is partly due to the negative impact of the IPADs (which use ultra-dense flash memory), which stole sale from more traditional notebooks or netbooks (which use HDDs).The slowdown is also partly due to the delay among pc makers in coming up with a new 'bios' that can handle the next generation of large HDDs (above 8 terabytes). 31. hi Alex, PJD seem very likely continue uptrend after breakout major resistance at 80sen yesterday. I’m still keep my holding intact, waiting for its 3 for 8 warrant. Based on chart, could PJD potentially breakout its next level at 88sen, and subsequently 1.00?

  32. Hello alex , why I came to here ?

This is why I came to here >

yr call to buy sunrise at 2.31 -

Posted by Alex Lu at 9/24/2010 04:17:00 PM

Sunrise may have a bullish breakout
One of my favorite property, Sunrise is again making another attempt to break above its downtrend line. This time, the breakout is accompanied by big volume. The increased volume means that it will have better chance of launching into an uptrend. Its immediate resistance is at the horizontal line of RM2.30 & then at RM2.60.

Chart 1: Sunrise's weekly chart as at Sept 23, 2010_arithmetic scale (Source: Quickcharts)

An alternative view of the Sunrise's price movement is given below by the weekly chart plotted on logarithmic scale. We can see that the stock has yet to break above its downtrend line yesterday. With the gain of 10 sen (price was at RM2.31 as at 4.38pm), Sunrise has successfully broken above the downtrend line, based on this log scale chart.

    Chart 2: Sunrise's weekly chart as at Sept 23, 2010_log scale (Source:Tradesignum)

Based on the bullish breakout, Sunrise could be a good trading BUY.

Is the above what u called alex lu is doing a very good job here and help a lot of people to see the good of combining TA as well as FA ?

is that what u mean ?

sunrise is now 2.10, dropped from yr call of 2.31 , what next now ? cut loss or hold ?

can alex lu help those who followed yr call at 2.31 ? mind to tell us what to do next ? cut loss or hold ?

mind to tell mr alex ?

    ReplyDelete
  33. or may be u need to wait till sunrise goes back to 2.31 then only u tell us it is a HOLD ! aren't u alex ?

    Cut or hold ?

is that so difficult to tell ?

  35. Hi hng

i agree with your take on PJD. The stock has a bullish breakout at 80 sen yesterday. Its immediate resistance is at RM0.85 and then at 88sen and finally at RM1.00-1.20.

    ReplyDelete
  36. neno,

Nothing is certain. If you had lost monies in Sunrise, too bad! Don't sulk here, take it elsewhere. PE is low compared to the peers and historical PE.

Sam also bought Supermx at 4.8x if I am not mistaken. Down 20% now. Buy or hold.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi neno,

Thanks for boosting the number of comments on this post above 30. At some point, it can get a bit dull if you keep repeating the same thing.

What can I say above Sunrise? Shit happens! Stock market is like that. If you don't trade on a breakout often enough (or, call them as I do), you would never know what you've missed out. You can keep your batting average high by buying only 10 stocks a year and enjoy 9 wins & 1 loss. Or, you may try out 50 stocks a year & enjoy 40 wins & 10 losses. If you keep your losses small, you may still come out ahead by going down the second path. Then again, trading is a personal thing. You can choose to be very cautious. You can also choose to fundamentally driven. It's all up to you. For this blog, I look at both fundamental & technical analysis. I look at safe stocks & not-so safe stocks. This blog is a food court that caters for people from all walks of life.

  38. Hi Alex,

Don't be disheartened by unkind comments. Breakouts are high probability trading setups and it's good of you to point them out. All setups are liable to fail and it's our own responsibility to manage the risk involved. Trading takes a lot of practice.

Of course if one can't trade breakouts well, he can always trade other setups like trend trading or range trading.

  39. Hi david, seems like u also subscribed to sifu blog , if u dont agree with sam , why u paid for it ? there u follow & agreed with sam that ta is useless, here u act differently ! hypocrite ?

Supermx or bstead ? perhaps u should ask sifu openly in his private blog, I doubt u dare to disclose yr name over there.

hello alex, the question here is out of yr 10 ta calls, 9 gone to drain, is that u mean by keeping yr losses small ? do u want me to bring up another 9 of yr ta calls here ?

so what should we do now on sunrise, sell or hold ? is that so difficult to tell ? alex ?
