The US DEBT DEAL is now almost a DONE DEAL!

They do the silliest thing in Washington, don't they? Nevertheless, I must salute the markets for the calm reaction to this round of high profile political fight, between the Republicans & the Democrats. Maybe, the majority of the market participants just do not believe that US politicians are crazy enough to inflict the kind of damage onto the nation & the weak US economy. Now, it seems like a deal may have been reached. Can it pass through the Congress? For more, go here.

If one look at the last bitter fight over the US budget which led to a shutdown of the federal government, one would not be too sanguine about the selfless interest of the politicians in Washington these days. The earlier shutdown is known as the US Government Shutdown of 1995-96, when the US federal government was shut down twice due to disagreement between President Bill Clinton & US House Speaker Newt Gingrich over the US federal budget (here).

This is what happened when partisan politics reached a dysfunctional level. We may see the same in Malaysia if we do not improve our political discourse.
