Dufu: How to Train a Dragon?

Today, there is a unusual news item about a hard-disk drive manufacturer, Dufu Technology Corp. Bhd (Dufu) appointing an independent contractor, Aspire Ambience to provide consultancy services, including training the acting CEO of its wholly-owned subsidiary, Dufu Industries Sdn Bhd. Aspire Ambience belongs to the former Executive Director of Dufu, Yong Poh Yow who had resigned from Dufu on August 27. The monthly fee for this contract is RM40000.

I personally find this contract and arrangement to be rather strange and, in many ways, quite inappropriate. If a person takes up the post of CEO, he should be ready for the job and not having to run on training wheels. The better way to work around this delicate "problem" is to retain the service of Yong for another 6-12 months while the acting CEO serves as the Deputy CEO. At the end of that period, the company will be able to confirm whether the Deputy CEO is ready to be promoted as the CEO.

Anyway, I will just clock this one as another funny Malaysian story! There have been plenty of weird and sad stories coming out of Malaysia lately. I can't wait for the new year to arrive.

Hi lai,

People should be embarrassed enough not to be entangled with such issues but not all Malaysians! If you point out their errors, they would not only ignore you but shout back "Malaysia Boleh".

What can we say when our leaders personify this can-do-no-wrong attitude?! The Malay proverb "Bapak borek anak rintik" describes our sad state of affair accurately. While Singapore continues to pursue excellence, we embrace kakistocracy & wallow in the cesspool of mediocrity.
